Dr Jim Hagan PSM

Chief Adviser, International Economics and Security Division, Department of the Treasury

Dr Hagan is currently covering national security and economic engagement with the Indo-Pacific for Treasury. He returned to Treasury in late 2016 following a five year secondment as a Deputy Director General in the Office of National Assessments.

Jim was an Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank 2007 to 2011, and Deputy Secretary in the Solomon Islands Ministry of Finance 2005 to 2007. He was also the executive member of the Foreign Investment Review Board, headed the Domestic Economy Division in Treasury and led the GST Start-Up Office.

Jim also worked in the New Zealand Treasury from 1992 to 1998: covering labour market, tax and education reform, and was part of New Zealand’s delegation to Kyoto in 1998.

Jim received his PhD in economics from ANU in 1992, and Bachelor of Economics with first class honours from Wollongong University in 1983.
