David Woods joined DFAT as Chief Economist in November 2021.
David previously worked in Treasury, serving most recently as the head of the team responsible for assessing Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) applications through a period of increasing scrutiny of foreign investment. Before that, David spent five years in Beijing as the head of the Treasury office in the Australian Embassy. David led a division working on the regulation of the financial system following the global financial crisis and he has extensive experience working on fiscal policy in both Treasury and PM&C.
Before David started his career in PM&C, he was living and working in the Middle East. He holds degrees from the University of Sydney and the London School of Economics.
